Bruxism Treatment at Yonge and Eglinton

yonge eglinton female family cosmetic dentist new patientsBruxism is the term used to describe clenched or grinding teeth during sleep. As with many issues that occur during sleep, you may have no idea you’re doing it until a spouse or partner hears the grinding at night or damage is detected by your dentist. Bruxism can be caused by the following:
  • stress
  • a reaction to pain
  • certain sleep disorders
  • teeth that are misaligned
Bruxism is also more likely to occur with the consumption of caffeine and alcohol. In severe cases grinding and clenching can cause oral complications and issues like chipping, hot and cold sensitivity, damage to dental work and more.

Signs of bruxism include sensitive teeth, jaw muscle pain, headaches and neck pain in the morning, tooth tips that are flattened or dull, the sound of grinding during sleep.

Bruxism can be treated and reduced through relaxation techniques, altered diet, and for more severe cases a custom fitted mouthguard. If any of the mentioned symptoms sound familiar, ask Dr. Jecu about Bruxism during your next visit
